(A CASE STUDY)

CICO TECHNOLOGIES LTD. has been associated with number of major Hydro Power Projects in India. Indira Sagar project is one among them. The project is situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The dam is a large concrete gravity dam across the river Narmada.

The installed capacity of Indira Sagar project (ISP) is 1000 MW. The ISP dam has the largest reservoir in India with a storage capacity of 12.22Bm3 of water. The maximum flood outflow is 83534 cumecs. The total length of the dam is 653 m & the maximum height is 92 m. Consisting of 8 francIs turbines of 125 MW each.


The Indira Sagar project dam consist of 20 radial gates of size 20 m x 17 m. these gate were fixed after completion of the concreting.


CICO TECHNOLOGIES LTD. was collect up to fin up the guide channel for the huge radial gates. It was a test for CTL expertise and its products CICO microcrete (s high strength concrete) & CICO Tapebond (a high bonding agent). The groove holding the channel of radial gates was approve 1 m wide & 0.25 m deep & 40 rm per gate length. This groove was to be filled with CICO micro concrete (high strength concrete) after application of bonding agent TAPEBOND to join old & new concrete.


CICO microcrete is a specially prepared ready to use grey powder, which requires addition of water only at site. It consist of fine aggregates & additives for repair of cavity / pitting of concrete/mortar surface.

It is a high strength & precision structural repair material.

During the execution of the job many difficulties were faced by the workers. The location of placement of CICO microcrete was difficult to approach.
